CEO’S MESSAGE
Dear Members, Partners, and Friends,
I am excited to share some important news for BLUE HAWK and the independent distribution community. Earlier this month, BLUE HAWK and OCTO PURCHASING GROUP entered into a strategic alliance designed to strengthen the independent HVACR supply distribution channel. This partnership will create better opportunities for Members and encourage more collaborative relationships with suppliers.
Both BLUE HAWK and OCTO are 100% member-driven, transparent in their operations, and deeply committed to long-term sustainability. By combining forces, BLUE HAWK and OCTO will focus on creating a larger, more integrated network that better serves the needs of independent distributors while enhancing their value to suppliers. This alliance represents a proactive step to ensure the long-term success of the independent distribution model across North America.
A Unified Vision for Partnership
- Elevate the independent channel: This collaboration unites two leading groups of independent distributors, amplifying their ability to work constructively with suppliers to advance the entire industry.
- Shared culture and values: As 100% member-driven organizations that operate with full transparency, BLUE HAWK and OCTO share a strong cultural alignment. This foundation ensures the collaboration remains focused on member success, integrity, and long-term sustainability.
- Drive shared success: Through the harmonization of purchasing and marketing efforts, the alliance aims to create new value for all partners—members and suppliers alike—contributing to mutual growth and innovation.
- Accelerate technology adoption: The partnership will serve as a platform for sharing and implementing innovative technologies that drive efficiencies, improve supply chain visibility, and support members in competing more effectively in a rapidly evolving marketplace.
- Best practice exchange: Both groups will actively share operational, marketing, and supplier relationship best practices, empowering Members with proven strategies that strengthen business performance.
- Geographic expansion: Members of both BLUE HAWK and OCTO will have the opportunity to expand their businesses into new markets across the United States and Canada, with streamlined processes for considering membership within each respective group.
“This strategic alliance with OCTO PURCHASING GROUP is about more than scale; it’s about partnership,” said Lauren Roberts, Chair of the BLUE HAWK Board of Directors, and CEO and President of cfm Distributors, Inc. “Our collective strength will allow us to deepen relationships with our valued suppliers, working together to innovate and better serve the evolving needs of the HVACR market. We are committed to a future where collaboration drives shared prosperity for all partners.”
“Uniting with BLUE HAWK will empower our Members and strengthen the independent wholesale channel across North America,” said Paul Blaik, President of OCTO PURCHASING GROUP Board of Directors, and Vice President of Independent Mechanical Supply Inc. “This alliance will enable us to work even more closely with our supplier partners to create new efficiencies and market opportunities. It is a win-win for everyone committed to the independent distribution model.”

The NextLevel Leadership Development program is designed to help Members strengthen essential leadership skills while gaining practical tools to drive success in their businesses. So far this year, we’ve hosted two strong workshops at the Annual Conference and two impactful webinars: Mastering Metrics: Key Financial Insights for Wholesale Distribution Success led by Paul Guidice of CoMetrics, and most recently Building Trust Through Better Communication with Jason Bader from the Distribution Team. Both sessions sparked great conversations and gave members practical tools they can apply right away. Keep an eye out for our third webinar coming soon.
We’re also excited to recognize those members who are actively engaging with the program. Through the NextLevel Recognition Program, participants earn points for joining events, attending webinars and contributing in the HAWK Spot group. Their dedication is a great example of how commitment to growth and connection is driving this program forward.

win a 2026 planning consultation!
That’s right. All Benchmark BLUE participants who are up to date as of Q2 2025 will be entered into a lottery to win a visit from CoMetrics CEO Paul Giudice to help utilize benchmarks in planning for 2026. The winner will be announced at the upcoming fall advisory forum.
This promotion applies to both new and existing participants. So, if you have been on the fence with Benchmark BLUE, now is your time!
Here’s what we are seeing in the data: sales have been soft, but bottom lines boomed in Q2.
Median sales growth in the second quarter was 3.3%, which is down slightly from Q1 (3.8%). Ferguson grew organic revenue by 5.8%, while Watsco was down 3% in the U.S. during similar fiscal periods.
Margin was up across the board. The median gross margin in Q2 2025 was 27.4%, compared to 26.7% in Q2 2024. Ferguson and Watsco also reported margin improvements driven by inflation and the A2L transition.
Finally, the majority of Benchmark BLUE members’ EBTIDA margin entered double-digit territory in the second quarter, with the median coming in at 10.1%.

We were hesitant to sign up for the Benchmark Blue program because of concerns about data security. However, once we understood the process, we moved forward—and we’re glad we did.
Setup took less than 30 minutes, and quarterly uploads take about five minutes. The impact has been transformative. Insights that once took hours to uncover now appear instantly. For example, in Q1 we spotted an anomaly in our IT expenses and discovered a $37,000 duplicate ERP bill. We resolved it immediately. Operating expenses are trending down as we target industry KPI’s allowing additional investment in marketing and other sales-related activities.
It’s one of the fastest ROI’s we’ve seen from any technology initiative we’ve implemented.”

October is National
Cooperative Month!
Celebrated by cooperatives nationwide, Co-op Month is a time to shine a light on the trusted, people-centered business model of co-ops that strengthens communities and drives lasting success. This year’s national theme — Cooperatives Build a Better World — echoes the International Year of Cooperatives and highlights how co-ops create resilient, inclusive communities across the globe.
Here at BLUE HAWK, we see that impact every day. Our Members are not only leaders in the HVACR industry but also champions in their communities — giving back, supporting families, and showing the true spirit of cooperation by working together.
That’s why, all year long, we’ve been spotlighting outstanding Members who fuel our growth and embody what it means to be part of a cooperative. If you’d like your company to be featured in this campaign, simply complete this form.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Admor HVAC Products
Headquarters: Honolulu, Hawaii with Superstores in Maui & Kona
Joined BLUE HAWK: 2007
President & CEO: Andrew Santos
Brag Bit:
We’re proud to be known as Hawaii’s HVAC Superstore, serving our community for over 32 years. We also hold a unique spot in Hawaii’s media history — we’ve created the longest-running consecutive television commercial series in the state, including a 20-year single storyline campaign for Fujitsu.
Why did you decide to join BLUE HAWK?
We joined BLUE HAWK for the unmatched access to HVAC manufacturers and collective buying power. What we value most, though, is the opportunity to connect and collaborate with hundreds of manufacturers and fellow distributors—sharing ideas, tackling challenges, and discussing a wide range of topics that impact the HVAC industry and distribution world as a whole.
Co-op Principle #5 is Education, Training and Information: How do you support employee growth and development?
Admor HVAC invests in growth through its 2,500 sq. ft. hands-on Fujitsu Ductless and VRF Training Center in Honolulu. The center features fully operational VRF and multi-zone systems, letting contractors and engineers learn installation, troubleshooting, and repair in real-world conditions.
All classes are free for licensed professionals, led by factory engineers and top instructors, with small class sizes for personalized instruction. Over the years, Admor HVAC has offered more training classes than any competitor in Hawaii, helping nearly every air conditioning contractor in the state gain hands-on experience.
This center reflects Admor HVAC’s commitment to employee growth, industry education, and exceptional service.
Co-op Principle #7 is Concern For Community: How does Admor give back to your local communities?
Giving back is very important to us. Over the years, we’ve raised more than $650,000 for the University of Hawaii Cancer Center alongside coolingcancer.org. We also annually provide two scholarships in honor of Mason Macloves, the young son of one of our employees who tragically passed away at seven months.
We also proudly support the University of Hawaii’s men’s and women’s golf teams, cheerleaders, band, and athletics, helping enrich our local community in meaningful ways.
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Western Supply Co.
Headquarters: Hutchinson, Kansas, with additional locations in Dodge City, Great Bend, and Hays, Kansas.
Our Hutchinson & Hays showrooms provide an opportunity for the homeowner to have one-on-one design consultations with our showroom sales associates and view a wide selection of products on display.
Joined BLUE HAWK: 2007
President & CEO: Scott Martin
Brag Bit:
We celebrated 75 years in 2024, and are now a third-generation family-owned business.
Why did you join BLUE HAWK?
We joined BLUE HAWK because the collective buying power allows us to stay competitive against much larger distributors—a real advantage in today’s marketplace. But what we’ve come to value just as much is the networking and collaboration that comes with being part of this cooperative. Having the opportunity to connect with other members, share ideas, and learn from one another has been incredibly beneficial. BLUE HAWK isn’t just about purchasing power; it’s about being part of a supportive community that helps us grow stronger together.
Co-op Principles #7 is Concern For Community: How does Western Supply give back to the community?
Supporting our community has always been a priority. We regularly contribute to local after-prom events, community gatherings, and fundraising auctions, helping create safe and memorable experiences for families. We’re also proud to sponsor youth sports teams and programs, investing in opportunities that encourage kids to learn, grow, and succeed both on and off the field. Giving back in these ways allows us to strengthen the communities we serve and support the next generation.

Businesses across the trades — including distributors, manufacturers, retailers, and contractors — often find it challenging to offer strong employee training programs. The return on investment isn’t always immediate, making training one of the first areas to face cuts, especially during economic uncertainty. And after workforce trends like the Great Resignation and Quiet Quitting, it’s easy to question whether going beyond the bare minimum is worth it.
Creating high-quality training content that can be delivered repeatedly to new hires takes both time and resources — two things that are often in short supply.
That’s where BLUE HAWK University (BHU) comes in. Included at no cost with your membership, BHU offers bite-sized, interactive product training courses that are easy to access and engaging to complete. You can also build custom training tracks, giving your team — whether new or seasoned — the knowledge they need, when they need it.
